The Aye-Ayes Have It (a Baby)!
Who thinks this little one is cute? Say "aye-aye!" A rare baby aye-aye—a little girl—was born recently at the San Diego Zoo, marking the first birth of this species here. Born to first-time parents Styx and Nirina, baby Fady is already a VIP—very important primate. With only 27 of these unique animals in North America, every addition represents hope for the future of the species. Living only on the island of Madagascar, aye-ayes are secretive, nocturnal creatures that, unfortunately, are considered by many native people to be an omen of bad luck. Despite being protected by law, aye-ayes are often killed on sight, making the efforts to save the species even more critical.
Park's Rhino Conservation Gets Big Boost—6 of Them!
Six female southern white rhinos flew in from Johannesburg recently, and boy, are they ready to help the conservation cause! Ranging in age from four to seven years, the rhinos were relocated to the Safari Park from private reserves in South Africa as part of a collaborative conservation effort to save the critically endangered northern white rhino and all rhino species from extinction. Rampant poaching has decimated rhino populations, with an average of three of these gentle giants killed each day. There is much work to be done, and you can help.
Buy a Squooshi, Give to Wildlife
When you buy a Squooshi, you're sending hugs to wildlife. These reusable food pouches do more than cut down on trash, they help save animals, too!
Squooshi is contributing 20% of each Panda Snaq™ Pack purchase to the San Diego Zoo Global Wildlife Conservancy to help save species worldwide—like the giant panda on their pouches! What a great holiday gift idea that's sure to receive a "squish" of approval from kids of all ages. Only available for purchase at www.squooshi.com.
