"Bark" Shadows
The keepers in the Children's Zoo certainly aren't afraid of their own Shadow—they think he's super cute! The two-month-old timber gray wolf pup is playful and inquisitive, and, yes, he follows his caretakers around like a shadow. Shadow is preparing for his role as an animal ambassador, so care staff members are introducing the curious canid to various smells and sights. Keepers working with Shadow give him items such as ficus browse to smell and chew, ice cubes to chase around, or cardboard boxes to climb on. And since his future involves being around people, it's a plus that he can see guests who come to visit him at the Children's Zoo nursery in the Zoo's Discovery Outpost zone.
Baby Gorilla on the Go, Go, Go!
You can't keep a good girl down—just ask Joanne, the Zoo's three-month-old gorilla infant. The precious primate has mastered rolling over onto her stomach and propping herself up on all fours, and then scooting forward inch by inch. As Joanne branches out and tests her independence, mother Imani is still keeping a watchful eye on the other kids in the group, 5-year-old Frank and 3-year-old Monroe, just in case their play sessions get a little rough. Hope no one ends up on “time out!”
Stay Late and Explore Koalafornia at Nighttime Zoo
The Australian Outback meets the California shore for this year's Koalafornia-themed Nighttime Zoo, through September 1 at the Zoo. Aussie lore enchants throughout the evening, especially during the new show “Australiana II: Return to the Outback.” The Kangaroo Crossing crew will be on hand (and feet) performing kangaroo-style skills during an exciting trampoline act, and Dr. Zoolittle has a special show full of fun. Summer snacks, an evening happy hour at Albert's Restaurant, and the chance to see our new mountain lion exhibit are all part of the fun. And we're open late, until 9 p.m. daily, to make the most of it!
Summer Brewmaster Dinner at the Park
Join us at Mombasa Pavilion tomorrow, July 12, for a delicious dinner featuring the brews of Green Flash Brewery. Our Safari Park chefs will expertly pair each course with the highlighted beer selections for a wonderful dining experience. The evening begins with an animal presentation at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Cost is $79 for members and $92 for nonmembers. Tax, gratuity, and parking not included. Must be 21 or older to attend.
A Roaring Good Time at the Safari Park
This year's Summer Safari presented by LivingSocial brings an Asian celebration to the Park, complete with music, entertainment, and shows, all honoring the exciting new Tull Family Tiger Trail experience. Running through August 17, the fun includes extended hours until 7 p.m. and the chance to enjoy a relaxing late-afternoon Africa Tram tour. Don't miss the fun!
Show Your Stripes with the Park's New App
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park invites you to unleash your inner tiger with Stripe Yourself, an HTML5 web app that lets users create their own special tiger-inspired look. Upload your own photo and choose from a menu of tiger features like ears, whiskers, eyes, and tails, then pick the background and foreground that most suit your mood. Once you've made your Stripe Yourself creation, upload it to the online gallery and share it on social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest, to show the world your “tiger power.”
