Welcome to the wild world of ZOONOOZ
What is ZOONOOZ? Well, for one thing the title is a palindrome: the same forward, backwards, and upside down! Beyond that, it is the San Diego Zoo's member magazine, 32 pages of colorful animal and event information published every month.
First published in 1926, it is one of the benefits included in becoming a member of the San Diego Zoo, and most of the 250,000 plus circulation is mailed to our members.
What will you find in ZOONOOZ?
- Feature-length articles about the animals that live at the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park.
- Articles about Zoo and Wild Animal Park exhibits and what animals you’ll see there.
- The regular feature CRES Conservation Corner, with stories about research and conservation projects from Conservation and Research for Endangered Species (CRES).
- The regular feature On the Botanical Side, with stories about the huge variety of plants found on the grounds of the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park.
- The special ZOONOOZ calendar issue every November.
- News about events, education programs, giving opportunities, and conservation efforts.
If you want to be in the know, ZOONOOZ is for you!
ZOONOOZ® Magazine: July 2008
All Eyes on Lorises
Here’s looking at you, loris! The San Diego Zoo cares for three species of lorises, including the slender loris Nycticebus tardigradus tardigradus on our cover. These rare primates are native to southern and southeastern Asia, where they live a nocturnal and arboreal life in the forests. Their enormous eyes help them see in the dark to find their food—insects, which they catch with a stalk, lunge, and grab technique. Find out more about all we’ve learned about lorises in this month's issue of ZOONOOZ®
In this issue:
- Lorises: The Surprise Primate
Helena Fitch-Snyder and Kim Livingstone - A New Adventure Dawns
Tami Bankson - An Animal for the Ages: The Timeless Tapir
Peggy Scott - Racing Against Time: Reproduction In Aging Animals
