Welcome to the wild world of ZOONOOZ

What is ZOONOOZ? Well, for one thing the title is a palindrome: the same forward, backwards, and upside down! Beyond that, it is the San Diego Zoo's member magazine, 32 pages of colorful animal and event information published every month.

First published in 1926, it is one of the benefits included in becoming a member of the San Diego Zoo, and most of the 250,000 plus circulation is mailed to our members.

What will you find in ZOONOOZ?

If you want to be in the know, ZOONOOZ is for you!

ZOONOOZ® Magazine: February 2008

Spineless wonders

In some birds and mammals, sexual dimor-
phism—the difference in appearance between
males and females—shows up as big, colorful
males and smaller, more drab-hued females. Stick
insects in the Order Phasmida, like this jungle
nymph Heteropteryx dilatata, are an exception to
the rule. Like the one on our cover, females are
bright green and measure up to seven inches.
Males, on the other hand, are mottled brown and
only reach about four inches. No doubt you’ll
notice the females in the Zoo’s insect house, but
are you up for the challenge of spotting the males?
Find out what’s involved in caring for all the insect
house inhabitants, in this month's issue of ZOONOOZ®
