Welcome to the wild world of ZOONOOZ
What is ZOONOOZ? Well, for one thing the title is a palindrome: the same forward, backwards, and upside down! Beyond that, it is the San Diego Zoo's member magazine, 32 pages of colorful animal and event information published every month.
First published in 1926, it is one of the benefits included in becoming a member of the San Diego Zoo, and most of the 250,000 plus circulation is mailed to our members.
What will you find in ZOONOOZ?
- Feature-length articles about the animals that live at the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park.
- Articles about Zoo and Wild Animal Park exhibits and what animals you’ll see there.
- The regular feature CRES Conservation Corner, with stories about research and conservation projects from the Zoo’s department of Conservation and Research for Endangered Species (CRES).
- The regular feature On the Botanical Side, with stories about the huge variety of plants found on the grounds of the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park.
- The special ZOONOOZ calendar issue every November.
- News about events, education programs, giving opportunities, and conservation efforts.
If you want to be in the know, ZOONOOZ is for you!
ZOONOOZ® Magazine: May 2007
Uncovering the Bear Essentials
Bears in South America? Yes, it's true. Spectacled bears Tremarctos ornatus, like cover bear Tommy, are found in cloud forests and grasslands in the Andes and other mountainous areas in South America. Their interesting markings and shy tendencies give these bears an air of mystery. But we're learning a lot about them and other bears—and you will too—as we celebrate Bear Awareness Week May 5 to 13. Find out more about bears in the May 2007 issue of ZOONOOZ®.
In this issue:
- Bear in Mind
Ashley Bradley and Wendy Perkins - Born in the USA: Native Wildlife is Amazing, Too!
Heidi Trowbridge - The Zoo's Magic Murals
Karen Ronney - Charming Cheetahs
Karen Barnes - Trees and Wood: Treasures through Time
Daniel A. Simpson
