#215, Elaine, thanks for the description of where Mei Sheng will likely stay once he finishes his quarantine.

With all the beautiful descriptions of the country around Wolong and of the facility itself, I think I will set a goal for myself to save my pennies so I can go on one of the zoo's trips SDZ or NZP to Wolong in a couple of years. Who knows, I might even get to see Mei Sheng's offspring and Hua Mei's. In a couple of years, Hua Mei's first two sets of twins will be ready for breeding themselves. Imagine seeing Bai Yun's grand-cubs! It gives me chills just thinking about it.

#190 Global warming may be one day years later it will impact polar bears, but not American brown bears. There are number of agencies suppose to help the animals such as ASPCA. There are too many cute deers that people were asked to hunt them down. Millions of cats, dogs and etc... are killed because excess of them roaming around the streets, airport.... I was told to stop feeding the pigeons, stray cats and etc… It's all very sad stuff, but it should be another topic other blog dedicate to this.
Back to Mei Sheng, thank you " panda team” for keeping me inform. Sheng, you are so handsome, so sweet and my tears just, can't control it…. please be well and always love you…

LuLu#190, I tend to agree with you on your suggestion! I truly believe that we should also help out our own bears in the States as well. Let's hope that one day we'll be able to drop bear biscuits from above! :-)

Stay tuned to CCTV on all the latest Mei Sheng related videos!

Margaret - #186.

The pandas in the " playgrounds" or the kindergarten classes are the one year olds. We were able to go into the enclosure (the one which has the new vertical structure you can see on their panda cams) and play with them for a short time when we were there in September.

We also saw the area where Mei Sheng will probably be placed after he gets out of quarantine. There were two quite large areas with a great hillside. There were about four pandas in the one area, and a couple that were out of their enclosure in the other.

If you ever get the chance to go to Wolong, don't miss it!

OMG I went and looked at today's time lapse and for a brief second between 1200 and before 1400 you can see her scooting around the floor. Too cute.

Re: my own post #184

After I wrote that, I wished I hadn't posted it. Simply because I realize that Pandas are NOT natives to this country. I guess what I was wondering was if there was any way to somewhat replicate their habitat (and the PNW came to mind) so that they could roam a little more freely here, in the USA. From what I've read, even Wolong has boundaries for the Pandas. So they are not truly free-roaming, but they are certainly reproducing, which is a GREAT thing!

I guess Mei Sheng's departure hit me a little harder than I thought it would, and I didn't watch him grow like I have been with Mei Lan!

I think we can all hope that someday, the Panda population will be so booming that they can become permanent " residents" -- with all thanks to China for sharing these beautiful creatures!

Margaret--#206--I didn't see the cub go out of the den this afternoon. But when I was watching pandacam, she was in the center of the room outside the den. She then proceeded to move herself to the right side of the screen and into an area where she couldn't be seen on camera. I don't think she was scooting--she looked like she was crawling very slowly.

I read the artical about Mei Sheng someday returning to SDZ, I pray it comes to pass. What a thrill to have him back home again, make it soon please! China is only his ancestral home but he was born here, and this will always be his real home.
