Meet the Maasai

There are some exciting things happening here at the Wild Animal Park this summer that you shouldn’t miss. This first bit of news I am just thrilled to talk about: we are honored to have here, from the Mbirikani Group Ranch in Kenya, Maasai tribesmen and women. Every time they walk by my shop (the Plant Trader) I get giddy with delight! They are such warmhearted and beautiful people.
The Maasai are here for two months to share their culture and crafts and to tell of their efforts to preserve the lions in Africa through a conservation effort called the “Predator Compensation Program”. I have spoken with a couple of the men and it is such a delight to hear them speak of their mission and its growing success. They love to speak with our guests as much as we want to meet and greet them! The women are busy making necklaces and earrings for sale at the Mombasa Island Market, as well as other items, that will support the efforts of their communities back home. They can also be seen near Lion Camp telling stories, doing traditional dancing, and sharing a part of life that most of us only hear about.
What a diverse and wonderful world we live in. Stop by and become a part of it. Come early, stay late for Park At Dark. We’re open ’til 8 p.m. through September 3. You don’t want to miss this!
