Adopt-An-Animal: Su Lin!
Posted at 9:23 am December 6, 2005 by Rachael Shay
Su Lin is here and she is sweet! Because of the numerous requests for Su Lin specifically, we are offering, for a limited time, the opportunity to sponsor our little panda cub through the San Diego Zoo’s Adopt-An-Animal program. She is only available for adoption during the month of December. We have created a special adoption certificate specific to Su Lin, with computer wallpaper and a screensaver featuring her first months of life. The adoption makes a great gift idea for the holidays. Proceeds for the program will go to purchase toys and treats for our panda friends and other animals living at the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park.

I love the screensaver with all the snapshots of Su Lin. It includes some photos with a log outdoors that I hadn’t seen before.

I just adopted the panda right before Su Lin became available. I love my wallpaper and screen savers, but I’m wondering who they are specifically. There is a picture of Bai Yun with a baby, is this Mei Sheng?
Anyway, what a great way to help all the zoo and park animals! Whenever I boot up, there they are smiling that panda smile at me. Money well spent!

I always said I was a panda mom and now it is official! I have adopted Su Lin. The screen saver is great and her head is in the right position as my desktop icons are on the left. HUUUUUUGGGGGGGSSSSSS

I was pleasantly surprised to see Su Lin wandering around in Bai Yun’s indoor area. This gives her much more area to exercise her legs and explore even though it is a bare area. She found her way back into the den and promptly went to sleep. I hope this will continue so we pandaholics can follow this big step in Su Lin’s development. What is the other area, with the open door, just to the right of the den door? Bai Yun was there chomping away on bamboo with her back to the main room. She wasn’t concerned about Su Lin’s wandering. I would like to see a schematic of the various areas so as to orient myself with Bai Yun’s comings and goings.

I saw the precious sweetie exploring around the bedroom area in the evening! Don’t know if she wandered out on her own or if Bai Yun brought her out…but she was so adorable. Curious about everything!! After the girls’ night out, they went back into the den and settled down side by side for a well-deserved nap.
Su Lin’s now nursing to regain all those lost calories from the excursion!

Our Su Lin made the TV news last evening. We, the pandaholics and panda moms learned, through her TV appearance, that Su Lin would be transferred to “new digs” today.

Hi,
I am from Canada and I want to adopt Su Lin. However, the adoption form is designed for USA residents only. For instance this form does not recognize Canadian provinces and Canadian postal codes. How do I go about doing the adoption? Thank you!

Same question as L Mok re: international adoption…
I think this is a great idea for a gift! But I would like to adopt on behalf of a friend outside the US… and would certainly like for her to receive the associated information and not myself! Any suggestions as to how to go about adopting internationally?

Our online form is set up for U.S. addresses only so to get around that (for foreign addresses), you can fill in your entire address in the “address” section of the form and insert San Diego, CA 92112 in the “city,” “state,” and “zip code” portion.

It’s official for me too! I’ve adopted Su Lin
I also adopted Tai Shan at the National Zoo
The new den for Su Lin and her Mommy Bai Yun looks great! Immense thanks to the staff at the SD Zoo for doing such a wonderful job:)

I’m so excited that we can adopt Su Lin even though we’re in Sweden! My whole family’s gone panda-nuts since we found this site and I can’t wait to tell them that it’s possible for us to help sponsor the little one! Thanks for the tip, Rachael!

Oh boy, I was hoping to adopt come new year, since I didn’t make enough to qualify for tax deductions this year. Oh well, a few tax savings (or the lack thereof) won’t stop me, so I’m filling out the adoption form after I post this.

I read about the “adoption” process, which sounds wonderful–but what about those of us who have Macs, since the screensaver won’t work?
December 10th, 2005 at 6:19 pm
Our program is set up to accommodate PC’s as well as Macintosh OS9 and OSX. The screen savers work on any of these computers. I have never had anyone report problems with the screen savers but if you did ever encounter a problem, we do have support staff that will help.

To #13 -Since I also have a Mac, I opted to use the $35 level to adopt Su Lin (no screen saver). Hopefully, someone on the staff can tell us if there will be one available for us in the future. Sadly, that seems to be a challenge frequently for us Mac addicts. That couldn’t stop me from adopting her!!! (;-) Su Lin is so much fun to watch, I do it when I should be taking care of other things.

Rachael - I adopted at the 100 level and live in NY - will I have to pay the shipping on my plush animal?
Thank you.

When I adopted Su Lin at the $35 level, I thought it said that the screen saver was not available for Mac X at the next level up. Is it possible to “upgrade” (contribute the extra amount) and get the screen saver after we already adopted? Please let us know how to do it. (;-)

Comment to number #13 & #15. We realized the problem with the tiger version of MAC and are looking into software that will allow our screen savers to work with the new version. We hope to fix the problem asap.

Comment for #16 - We provide a $20.00 gift certificate and recommend a plush that costs $12.99. That allows tax and shipping to be covered. The gift certificate is worth $20.00 for anything at shopzoo.com, so you can purchase a plush worth more but you would need to cover any costs above and beyond the $20.00.

Comment to #2 - The photos on the regular panda screen saver are all of Bai Yun and/or Mei Sheng. Like his sister, he is very photogenetic.
