The Timid One

As one of the bigger elephants, you’d think "Samba" would have it easy. Yet she keeps her distance from the others, and is the most reluctant of the herd to try new things. Her African name means "hope," a fitting name since she and the rest of the herd were twice candidates for culling in Africa. Her first calf, Impunga, was born March 11, 2007.
