Meet the Polar Bears Kalluk: The Athlete

This youngster is full of boundless energy and enthusiasm. The largest of our four bears, he is both handsome and impressive to look at. Like a typical kid, he plays with and throws anything he can get his paws on, and loves to belly flop into the pool. He is especially fond of wearing enrichment items on his head—from burlap sacks to palm fronds, he makes quite the fashion statement! He came to the Zoo in March 2001, and his favorite color is any colored item that can be tossed or worn on the head.

Tatqiq: The Princess

Petite and dainty, Tatqiq dives into the pool with back paws pointed. She is graceful underwater as well, swimming with sleek, smooth strokes. Quite the bird watcher, Tatqiq finds creative ways to lure ducks and herons into the enclosure to "play" with. And don’t let her small size fool you—Tatqiq is the boss when she’s out with her brother, Kalluk. She came to the Zoo with Kalluk in March 2001, and her favorite color is pink.

Chinook: The Stalker

If you see a brown polar bear, it’s probably Chinook—she loves to roll in the dirt! Chinook’s favorite pastimes are napping and getting as dirty as possible. She is both cunning and confident, and seems to enjoy keeping her keepers on their toes. She’ll pretend to be resting in her bedroom, then pounce with great glee as a keeper walks by. She came to the Zoo in May 1996, and her favorite color is green.
