If this year’s Summer Olympics were open to all of the planet’s species, humans probably wouldn’t even have a shot at medaling—especially if they had to compete against the top animal athletes! Animals have tons of adaptations that help them perform feats worthy of athletic recognition, yet they actually compete for a much bigger prize than a gold medal: survival. From the cheetah that is able to accelerate faster than a Ferrari to the ant that can lift 20 times its own body weight, it’s simply no contest when we compare ourselves to the champions of the wild. This summer, 6th- through 8th-grade campers will discover these amazing animal adaptations firsthand as they get up close to the Park’s greatest animal athletes during behind-the-scenes visits, a Caravan Safari, animal feeding opportunities, up-close animal ambassador encounters, and more.
