Summer Camp 2012: One-Day Camps
Discover an adventure like no other during the San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s Summer Camp 2012! There may be many types of summer camp for kids, but few will have campers interacting with rhinos and giraffes, meeting meerkats, getting up close to cheetahs, feeding okapis, and discovering African wonders the way the San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s will! These one-day camps are hands-on, join-in, be-a-part-of-it fun with options for kids ages 6 through 17. If your children love animals, the Safari Park is the place for them this summer. Jump in and make your plans—it’s never too early to start thinking about summer in San Diego!

Fancy Feet
Grades 1–6: Monday, July 2
Grades 7–12: Friday, July 6
Would you wear the same shoes playing soccer as you would for a hike in the hills? What about at a pool party? Some animals’ fancy feet fill a need for speed while others are all-terrain. Some keep them from sinking while wading in a swamp while others get the grip to make mountain climbing seem simple. Explore paws, claws, toes, and hooves checking out the fanciest feet in the animal kingdom. Hop on board a Photo Caravan Safari truck to see hooves in action as you are immersed in the herds for an opportunity to feed giraffes. Venture behind-the-scenes to offer tasty treats to fancy-footed animals from around the world and meet animals up close in private animal encounters. Wear comfy shoes to keep your own fancy feet happy as you explore the Safari Park on this one-day foot frenzy!
Predators!
Grades 1–6: Tuesday, July 3
Grades 7–12: Thursday, July 5
How do you get to the top—of the food chain, that is? Do you get there with a little help from your friends or go it alone? Do what comes naturally or learn from the experienced? Set a trap and wait or search and destroy? There’s a lot to do when meat’s on the menu. Spend the day pondering predators with behind-the-scenes visits to Lion Camp and the Park’s tiger exhibit, up-close encounters with cool carnivores, guided Park tours, and more.
Wild about Art
Grades 1–6: Thursday, July 5
Grades 7–12: Tuesday, July 3
Calling all artists! Be inspired by the amazing animals at the Safari Park and go WILD about art as you use different media to explore and interpret the animal collection. Hop on board a safari truck to immerse yourself right into the herds in the Park’s large field enclosures. Relax as animal ambassadors come to you for up-close observations. Explore new ways to share your artistic eye for animals with others. The day will include behind-the-scenes visits and Park tours, sketching, drawing, painting, sculpture, papier-mache, and more. You’ll examine styles from abstract to photo-realism with the help of your artist-in-residence camp counselor. Let your creative juices flow and go wild about art this summer at the Safari Park!
Feathers & Flight
Grades 1–6: Friday, July 6
Grades 7–12: Monday, July 2
Becoming airborne isn’t easy! What does it take to get off the ground? Feathers can make it happen, but not all feathers are created equal; some birds, feathered as they may be, can’t fly at all! Discover the secrets of soaring in a day bonding with the birds (and bats and bugs and other fantastic flyers, too!) Campers will explore awesome aviaries, check out the Frequent Flyers Bird Show, meet birds from around the world up close in private animal encounters, offer our winged wonders tasty treats, and more!
