Native Diversity

Condor Ridge celebrates the diversity of North American habitats and the animals that are unique to our own continent. Bighorn sheep sprint nimbly up granite boulders, Harris’ hawks spread their wings, and brilliant green thick-billed parrots are seen—and heard!

You enter the Condor Ridge area via the Wild Animal Park’s Conifer Forest, and then encounter an exhibit with pine trees that provide roosting places for endangered thick-billed parrots. At the base of the trees, you’ll see western greater roadrunners gliding among the native shrubs. Next door is a majestic bald eagle, and farther along the path are North American porcupines, black-footed ferrets, black-tailed prairie dogs, and burrowing owls.

At the end of the trail is an observation deck with an interpretive center that focuses on recovery efforts for bighorn sheep and California condors. North America’s largest flying bird, our California condors can be seen on boulders and cliffs inside their large aviary. The California condor is a wonderful example of a successful breeding and reintroduction program, and you can discover how we helped bring these magnificent birds back from the brink of extinction.
