Kid Territory: Crafts: Snake Mobile

Snakes have beautiful patterns on their smooth, scaly skin. Those patterns help them blend into their habitat, so food doesn’t see them coming, and critters looking for a snake snack won’t see them! Here’s your chance to make your own colorful snake-skin pattern, anyway you like, to hang at your house.
What you need
• Spiral snake pattern (download
here or draw your own)
• 1 sheet of white cardstock, 8 ½ x 11 inches (or you can
use a colored cardstock is you don’t have time to completely color
your snake)
• 1 round head fastener (brad)
• Scissors
• 2 ½-foot long piece of yarn, any color
• Crayons or felt pens
The
snake pattern is stored
in PDF format which can be read and printed with the free Adobe
Acrobat Reader plug-in.
What you do
1. Download the spiral snake pattern onto the cardstock (or draw your
own spiral snake pattern on cardstock).
2. Color both sides of the snake with the pattern and colors of your
choice.
3. Poke the fastener (brad) in the middle of the pattern (where the
snake’s tail will be).
4. With the scissors, cut along the lines of the outside edge and the
spiral.
5. Attach one end of the yarn around the fastener.
6. Hang your snake mobile in its new “habitat” for all to
see!
