Kid Territory: Crafts: Beautiful Butterflies
|
|
Butterflies are invertebratesanimals without backbones. Scientists believe that there are thousands and thousands of invertebrates living in the world that havent even been discovered yet. You can create a butterfly that has never been seen before!
What you need
• 1 wooden clothespin (no springs)
• 2 6-by-10-inch pieces of tissue paper
• 2 chenille stems, cut in half
• Scissors
• Marking pens (optional)
What you do
1. Attach (twist) one chenille stem piece near the top of the clothespin to represent antennae on the butterfly's head. (See image 2.)
2. Attach another chenille stem piece to the lower prong of the clothespin and slide it up toward the butterfly's head. This will form one pair of legs. Bend each leg into three segments. Repeat to form a second pair of legs. (See image 2.)
3. Slide the two pieces of tissue paper in between the prongs (next to the legs), scrunching it up, to form two pairs of wings. (See image 3.)
(Optional: to make colorful wings, decorate the tissue paper with marking pens before attaching them.)
4. Attach a third pair of legs behind the wings to hold them in place. (See image 4.)
