2012 San Diego Zoo Global Medalist Nominations

Since 1966, San Diego Zoo Global has awarded its Conservation Medal to individuals who are passionate for wildlife conservation. Through their labors, advocacy, and scientific discoveries, these women and men deserve recognition for all that they do on behalf of wildlife and native habitats. Previous awardees include: Jane Goodall, HRH Prince Philip, Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikuzoka of Uganda, Gordon Moore of Intel, and Joan Embery.

The Conservation In Action Medal is awarded to an individual who is currently making an active and important contribution to the conservation and recovery of endangered species, habitats, or ecosystems in the field through applied research, breeding and reintroduction programs, community education, or the establishment of protected areas.

The Lifetime Achievement Medal is awarded to an individual who, through a distinguished career and associated body of work, has significantly advanced the field of conservation biology, making a lasting contribution to the conservation and recovery of animals, plants, habitats, and/or ecosystems.

The Advocacy and Philanthropy Medal is awarded to an individual who, through their personal efforts, written works, public presentations, promotion of the work of others, and charitable good deeds, has enhanced the environment for and the understanding of wildlife conservation.
