Water Conserving Plants
at the San Diego Zoo

Protecting our natural resources doesn’t have to drain all the color and life out of your landscape! Find out how beautiful “Water Conserving Plants” can be during the Zoo’s Mother’s Day Garden Festival. Daily events include free botanical bus tours, a special Dr. Zoolittle show, crafts for the kids, and an interactive browse presentation. The Orchid House will be open for viewing, and representatives from 15 plant and gardening organizations will be on hand to answer questions (booths open at 11 a.m.).
Children coming to the Garden Celebration can make lavender sachets for their mothers during this Mother's Day weekend event. On Mother's Day itself, May 10, moms will receive a lavender bouquet. Its elegant scent will be a reminder of a wonderful day at the Zoo.

The incomparable Dr. Zoolittle has some new tricks up the sleeve! Four shows daily in the Children's Zoo: Noon, 1, 2 and 3:30 p.m.
Botanical Bus Tour
Free botanical bus tours will highlight trees and plants in bloom throughout the Zoo each day. Tours depart from the Bus UNLOADING station at the Zoo: 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. (First-come basis)

View our dazzling collection of orchids from around the world. Open daily 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Exhibitors
Meet representatives from various gardening organizations,on hand to answer your plant-related questions. Exhibitor booths are located on the Zoo's front plaza: 11 a.m.–3 p.m.
Kid's Activities
Try your skill at the Blaster Water for Water Waste Game or make a sachet for someone special, near the entrance to the Children's Zoo. Daily 10:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Chinaberry sculpture
Chinaberry Trunk Show
We'll have dozens of these exquisite wood carvings from Bali, Indonesia available for purchase in the Garden Festival area. Each figurine is handcrafted from individual pieces of parasitic wood filled with beautiful, natural variations of color and shape. The mushroom-like growths are where the parasitic plant was attached to the tree. If the parasite covers enough of the tree, it could weaken and kill the tree. By pruning the infected branches and creating these beautiful works of art, the trees and the wildlife they support are saved. Chinaberry wood carvings are a wonderful sustainable product!
