Africa’s extraordinary wildlife and diverse habitats will soon be showcased in San Diego Zoo’s most impressive project to date, Conrad Prebys Africa Rocks. The 8-acre exhibit complex will replace the old, Works Progress Administration (WPA)-era grottos and cages in Dog and Cat Canyon with animal homes that resemble their natural surroundings in Africa.
Within Africa Rocks there will be at least five types of habitat, including the Africa Forest Canopy. It’s a forest as well as a woodland region that will be home to 30 charismatic mammals and birds. Our plan is to begin construction in late 2015 and debut this expansive African wildlife experience in 2017.
Through your heartfelt generosity, Africa Forest Canopy will transform an aging canyon in the Zoo into a magical journey through a land of awe-inspiring wildlife, intriguing landscapes, and iconic plants.
