Plants: Species
Pine: Mexican Weeping, Sad, or Jelecote Pine Pinus patula
FAMILY: PINACEAE (Pine Family)
The long, drooping needles of the Mexican weeping pine Pinus patula give it its common name, and one of its local names as well: pino triste, the sad pine. This species is drought tolerant but is easily killed by fire. Nature remedied that by making sure the scorching opened the cones to release the seeds, which are carried by "wings" in the breeze to root elsewhere.
