Plants: Species
Australian Scrub Cherry, Brush Cherry Syzygium paniculatum
FAMILY: MYRTACEAE (Myrtle Family)
The Australian scrub cherry Syzygium paniculatum is one of the native species used as "bush tucker," food you can scrounge up while on a walkabout in the bush. Its magenta fruit is edible and is used to make a jam known as lilly pilly jam in many parts of Australia. But please, no sampling in our forest!
