Cardinal Flower Lobelia cardinalis

FAMILY: LOBELIACEAE (Lobelia Family)

One of the many unusual plants in the Wild Animal Park's Herb Garden is the cardinal flower Lobelia cardinalis 'Queen Victoria.' Its purple leaves and stems and bright red flowers make it quite a standout against the many shades of green in the garden. Hummingbirds take notice, too, and are frequent visitors when the plant is in flower.
