Deerweed Lotus scoparius

Deer don't care much for deerweed, a legume family member, but bees do. And deerweed Lotus scoparius obligingly signals visiting buzzers by turning its yellow blossoms to red once they've been pollinated, telling would-bee nectar-sippers to stop and move on to fresh blooms. Look for deerweed's delicate flowers near the Coastal Sage Garden at the Safari Park.
