Plants: Species
Iceplant Delosperma and Lamprathus
FAMILY: AIZOACEAE (Marigold Family)
Iceplant hails from arid regions of Africa, where its succulent leaves help it survive the heat. It gets its common name from minuscule glistening sacks of liquid along the outside of its leaves, which make them look as if they were covered with ice. There are several types of iceplant commonly found in Southern California. The Lamprathus and Delosperma species blanket hillsides, embankments, and yards with blazing purple, pink, orange, or yellow flowers in the spring and summer.
