Mousetrap Tree Uncarina grandiddieri

FAMILY: Pedaliaceae (Sesame Family)

The mousetrap tree is a deciduous shrub or small tree reaching heights to 15 feet (4.5 meters) with a succulent type of base. It lives with eight other endemic species in northern, western, and southwestern Madagascar. Its showy yellow flower and fuzzy green leaf resemble the hibiscus. The fruit is capsule shaped and covered with stout, barbed hooks that help disperse the seeds through animal travel.
