FAMILY: BIGNONIACEAE (Bignonia Family)

The jacaranda tree is famous for its spring show of blue flowers. Jacarandas are popular in San Diego, although they are native to South America. They line the edge of the Safari Park's parking lot and the Zoo's Fern Canyon and Reptile Mesa. The jacaranda is the official urban tree of the City of San Diego. In Pretoria, South Africa, so many of the trees were planted there that Pretoria's nickname is now "Jacaranda City."
