A plant in the San Diego Zoo's Australian Wonders garden is actually native to Brazil and Paraguay. The flame vine Pyrostegia venusta has fire in both its common and scientific names and produces striking clusters of fiery blossoms in fall and early winter. The sun-loving, evergreen vine is also know as the flame flower and the golden shower.
