Smoke Tree Psorothamnus spinosus

From a distance, the branches of the smoke tree Psorothamnus spinosus seem to billow up from the ground in a cloud, providing the inspiration for the common name. When it flowers, the silvery branches are highlighted with small bright-purple flowers. Native to Southern California, Arizona, and northwestern Mexico, this tree is a striking and unusual addition to a native plant garden.
