Cycad: Sago Palm Cycas revoluta

Cycads are considered among the most primitive of plants and many species are endangered. The sago palm Cycas revoluta is considered particularly ancient, since the "cones" of the female plant and the male plant are only loosely structured. Young sago palms look a bit like ferns until they mature, when they resemble palms. They are neither fern nor palm, however but rather cone-bearing Asian cycads.
