Plants: Species
Pitcher Plant Sarracenia
FAMILY: Sarraceniaceae
American pitcher plants have bright colors and sweet nectar to attract their prey. A powerful drug in the nectar intoxicates the insect, which begins sliding down on the slippery, downward-pointing hairs within the pitcher. The drunk insect falls into the digestive acids and enzymes in the bottom, where its nutrient-rich body is then absorbed by the plant.
