Plants: Species
Tree Fern Cyathea and Dicksonia
FAMILY: CYATHEACEAE (Tree Fern Family)
Technically speaking, tree ferns are not true trees, because they don't have woody trunks. They simply have very long rhizomes that are strong enough to support themselves as well as their fronds. When fronds first begin to uncurl, they look like a violin's scroll, and are called croziers. If you happen to notice a crozier and have some time on your hands, it's fun to mount a daily frond watch. It usually takes several weeks for croziers to slowly uncurl into fronds.
